Electrocardiography
An electrocardiogram or ECG/EKG is a painless and non-invasive test recording the electrical activity of the heart.
Use of ECG/EKG
It shows:
- How fast the heart is beating
- Whether the rhythm of the heartbeat is steady or irregular
- The strength and timing of electrical signals as they pass through each part of the heart
- Poor blood flow to the heart muscle (ischemia)
- Certain abnormalities of the heart, such as an enlarged heart
- Recovery from a heart attack, progression of heart disease, or the effectiveness of certain heart medications or a pacemaker
