A1C blood test provides information about a person’s average levels of blood glucose (blood sugar) over the past 3 months. A1C test is sometimes called the hemoglobin A1c, HbA1c, or glycohemoglobin test. A1C test is the primary test used for diabetes management and diabetes research.
Estimated Average Glucose (eAG)
Another way to state the results of A1C test. A1C measures average glucose levels over the past 2 to 3 months with result stated as a percentage. But the result eAG is stated as mg/dl (Milligrams per deciliter).
Optimal Blood Sugar Levels
- between 70 and 130 mg/dl before meals
- below 180 mg/dl within two hours after eating
- general reading of A1C at 7 percent
- fasting reading of eAG at 154 mg/dl
Formula converting A1C to eAG 28.7 X A1C – 46.7 = eAG
