Aquaponics is the technology combining conventional aquaculture with hydroponic to grow fishes and plants together in one integrated system. Fish waste provides an organic nutrition source for growing plants and plants provide a natural filter for purifying water for fish to live in. However it needs third partners, the microbes-an nitrifying bacteria and composting red worms that flourish in the growing media. The third partners convert ammonia from fish waste to nitrites then to nitrates and the solids into vermicompost 蚯蚓糞 which are food for the plants.
